Another year may pass, but our love and admiration never will.
Here’s to Emily. Your music matters.
We offer a few selections from, This Is Me, her last album, released posthumously in 1990. Included are: Song For Maggie, Second Childhood and Simplicidaje.
What a lovely remembrance Steven, I have heard so many times from those that made Emily’s acquaintance, of how eager she always was to share her knowledge and love of jazz guitar. It’s quite apparent that Emily was a natural at teaching and knew how to win you over with her smile and enthusiasm. That the memory and beauty of those moments are known is important, thanks so much for sharing it with us.
I just wanted to describe my fond memories of Emily. For weeks that is all I knew her by. Emily would usually come into World of Strings to jam with Hank (I can’t remember Hank’s last name). I would be waiting for my lesson from Austin who played with the rock band Zebra. Emily would pull out her guitar and show me a chord progression and say now you play it. I would sometimes (more like many times) struggle at first with some new chord Emily had shown me but eventually get the hang of it while Emily patiently encouraged me. Then the magic would start as Emily would improvised over the chords I was playing. The only thing that would interupt us was Hank or Austin opening their doors to ask us into their studios. This went on for about three months. Near the end of those three months Emily told me to her first recording would be coming out soon. It was with great sadness a few years later I heard from Hank that Emily had passed away. We lost a beautiful musician and person.
Much love and respect to Emily Remler
