When the rhythm section is floating, I’ll float too, and I’ll get a wonderful feeling in my stomach. I emphasize to my students, rhythm is the most important thing. Ich betonen, dass meine Studenten, Rhythmus ist das Wichtigste. It must swing. Es muss schwingen. You can play a million notes and you can play a million chords, but unless it’s in the groove, unless it feels good, it’s not gonna make it. In The Pocket: how it should sound! In der Tasche, wie es klingen soll!
When I sit down, the way I practice, I play along with my tape recorder and go out into Trance Land. When I sit down, so, wie ich die Praxis, spiele ich zusammen mit meinem Kassettenrecorder und gehen in Trance Land. No heavy scales, no heavy patterns, I’ll make up melodies, I’ll play licks, I’ll just play music… play along with the metronome. Keine schweren Schuppen, keine schweren Muster, I'll make up Melodien, I'll play leckt, werde ich nur Musik spielen… spielen zusammen mit dem Metronom. The metronome is perfection. Das Metronom ist Perfektion. Of course none of us are going to reach perfection, but you can get pretty damn near close. Natürlich keiner von uns gehen Perfektion zu erreichen, aber du kannst verdammt ziemlich in der Nähe der Nähe.
