Could someone kindly point me in the direction of a transcription or tab for the blues Ms Remler opens her tutorial video “Be-bop and Swing Guitar” with? Kan iemand zo vriendelijk mij wijzen in de richting van een transcriptie of tabblad voor de blues mevrouw Remler opent haar tutorial video "Be-bop en Swing Guitar" met?

Hi Charlie, The song you are referring to is Emily's version of a classic Wes Montgomery song called D Natural Blues, which she often called Bb Blues because of the key she used to play it in. If you check the Downloads page, you will see a few short transcriptions of the head for Bb Blues but the most authentic transcription of it start to finish is available as a paid lesson guide from Guy Fenocchi. I've worked most of it out now, just getting to grips with the faster runs later on in the recording and a couple of awkward chord changes. Ik heb gewerkt meeste van het nu, draait gewoon aan de slag met de snellere later in de opname en een paar lastige akkoorden wisselingen. I used one of those youtube video to mp3 converters so I can play it on media player and keep flicking the progress bar back to break up the sections to hear what's going on. I'm one of those guitarists who gets spurred on by a determination to play a particular solo or song, so I'm always looking for songs which are a bit of a variation on the song I'm currently working on but along the same lines. Ah, well the natural progression for songs would be Emily's Blues For Herb, which you would find many familiar licks used in her version of D Natural Blues, I'll email a copy of that sheet music to you. This was transcribed from Emily's first tutorial DVD and is 100% accurate. Dit was overgeschreven uit de eerste tutorial Emily's DVD en is 100% accuraat. Being created in MS Word I was unable to add bar lines, but if you listen to the DVD and follow the tab you'll work out the time and see it's right. Worden aangemaakt in MS Word Ik was niet in staat om bar lijnen toe te voegen, maar als je luistert naar de DVD en volg het tabblad dat u zult werken de tijd en zie het goed is. It's also free! After that was published on here I did promise to work out the acoustic version of 'Blues for Herb' (the spectacular solo version which can be seen performed by Emily on Youtube) but I just haven't had time to do it yet. I knew Emily personally in the later years. Ik wist Emily persoonlijk in de latere jaren. I knew her first through her recordings, and as an aspiring guitarist, my jaw dropped when I saw that she was advertising for students in the Village Voice. Ik wist haar eerste door haar opnames, en als een aspirant gitarist, mijn mond viel open toen ik zag dat ze reclame voor studenten in de Village Voice. I called immediately and studied with her intermittently for a year or so. Ik belde onmiddellijk en studeerde met haar intermitterend voor een jaar of zo. Her lessons were useful and informative, but due to her hectic schedule, there were many breaks in my learning! One of my favorite memories – Emily lived in Chelsea, in Manhattan at the time, and she would sometimes play small shows at a restaurant on 7th Avenue around 21st street. She was really a great jazz guitarist. Ze was echt een geweldige jazz-gitarist.
I had the pleasure of meeting Emily when I took some guitar lessons from her at Filiberto's in New Orleans one summer. Ik had het genoegen van de vergadering Emily toen ik een beetje gitaar les kreeg van haar op Filiberto's in New Orleans een zomer.
I was instantly charmed by her and fell for her knowing she was way out of my league, but she was gracious and patient, introducing me to elementary jazz chords by way of Janis Ian's “All of me”. Ik was meteen gecharmeerd door haar en viel voor haar dat ze was weg uit mijn competitie, maar ze was vriendelijk en geduldig, de invoering van mij om elementaire jazz akkoorden door middel van Janis Ian's "All Of Me".
Seeing her perform was very special, as she would close her eyes and transport all with her music. Het zien van haar uit te voeren was heel bijzonder, want ze zou haar ogen sluiten en te vervoeren, met haar muziek.
I am very grateful to have met her, and thankful for my introduction to jazz guitar from her. Ik ben erg dankbaar dat ik haar ontmoet, en dankbaar voor mijn kennismaking met jazz gitaar van haar.
I still have those early handwritten lessons which continue to inspire, and hope one day that I can honor her. Ik heb nog steeds die eerste handgeschreven lessen die blijven inspireren, en hoop op een dag dat ik kan haar eer.
I bumped into her the following year on the street; she remembered me and said “You must be getting good by now”, which I thought was awfully nice of her even if it wasn't true! I only met Emily Remler once when she played a concert together with Larry Coryell in a nice small club named “Subway” in Cologne, Germany, around 1985. Ik heb alleen ontmoet Emily Remler keer toen ze een concert samen met Larry Coryell gespeeld in een leuke kleine club met de naam "Metro" in Keulen, Duitsland, rond 1985. She played her Borys guitar that evening, and we talked a little after the set (it was really a small club, very private character). Ze speelde haar Borys gitaar die avond, en we praatten even na de set (het was echt een kleine club, erg prive-karakter). What a nice person, and what an incredible warm sound she had. Wat een aardig persoon, en wat een ongelooflijke warme klank had. I didn't hear anything again on her for years after that evening, until I read about her sudden death in 1990. Ik heb niet meer iets gehoord over haar jaren na die avond, totdat ik las over haar plotselinge dood in 1990. What a loss, such a fine person and artist. Wat een verlies, zoals een geldboete persoon en artiest.
She touched my heart, soul & mind. Ze raakte mijn hart, ziel en geest.
“East and Wes” somehow found it's way to my CD player and I was completely floored by the fluidity of a guitarist I knew zilch about playing in a genre that I was mostly lukewarm towards … "Oost en Wes" een of andere manier's vonden hun weg naar mijn cd-speler en ik was helemaal gevloerd door de vloeibaarheid van een gitarist wist ik noppes over het spelen in een genre dat ik was meestal lauw naar ...
now I'm working my way back through her music and thinking about another Emily who wrote about the candle burning at both ends–what a lovely light Ms. Remler left! nu ben ik mijn weg terug te werken door middel van haar muziek en na te denken over een andere Emily, die over de kaars schreef aan beide uiteinden-wat een heerlijk licht Ms Remler links!
My patient guitar teacher, Mark, suggested the other day that we learn Tenor Madness. Mijn patiënt gitaarleraar, Mark, stelde de andere dag dat we leren Tenor Madness. Not familiar with the tune I looked for versions on the web and found Emily playing it on an Australian TV show, on YouTube. Niet vertrouwd met de tune heb ik voor versies keek op het internet en vond Emily te spelen op een Australische tv-show op YouTube. One thing led to another and I came across this brilliant site. Een ding kwam het ander en kwam ik deze briljante site. Thank you so much for all the info, the live shows and the rest. Dank je wel voor alle info, de live shows en de rest. Back in the 80s Emily sort of passed me by, perhaps because she was not an ECM artist! Terug in de jaren '80 Emily soort aan mij voorbij, misschien omdat ze niet een ECM-artiest! How much did I miss. Hoeveel heb ik gemist. And following Ed Woodall's post of yesterday, I remember many hours of great music on Charles Fox's programme on BBC Radio 3. I first heard Emily's playing on BBC Radio 3′s – “Jazz On 3″ introduced by Charles Fox, ( I think that was his name), when I was at boarding school, on a little transistor radio smuggled under my blankets, after lights out! Many years I was waiting for Emily Remler to perform in my home country Austria. Vele jaren was ik te wachten voor Emily Remler uit te voeren in mijn vaderland Oostenrijk. – but she never showed up. - Maar ze liet zich niet zien. It was not before 2000 that I learned that she had passed away. Het was niet vóór 2000 dat ik hoorde dat ze was overleden.
On the 18 th february of that year my baby girl was born and I thought it would be a fine thing to give the baby the name of the best female guitarplayer I 've ever heard. Op 18 februari van dat jaar mijn dochtertje werd geboren, en ik dacht dat het zou een mooi ding om de baby de naam van de beste vrouwelijke gitarist die ik ooit heb gehoord te worden. My baby Emily is now a beautiful nine year old girl, who reminds me sometimes of my youth, when I was listening the album together for years and thousands of times. Mijn baby is Emily nu een mooi negenjarige meisje, die doet me denken soms van mijn jeugd, toen ik het album samen te luisteren al jaren en duizenden keren.
Last night when I was surfing the net I found this page by accident and as you can imagine I didn't get any sleep, because I was listening to the wonderful sound of the guitar till morning. Gisteravond toen ik het net vond ik deze pagina bij toeval tegen en als je je kunt voorstellen heb ik geen slaap te krijgen, want ik was te luisteren naar de prachtige klank van de gitaar tot morgen surfen. I had the privilege to see Emily perform in Wellington New Zealand at the International Festival of the Arts shortly before she died. Ik had het voorrecht om Emily te zien presteren in Wellington Nieuw-Zeeland op het Internationaal Festival van de Kunst kort voordat ze stierf. Technically she was brilliant, but unfortunately her heart wasn't in it, her music did not communicate and it seemed to be only technique. Technisch was ze briljant, maar helaas was haar hart niet in, deed haar muziek niet communiceren en het leek alleen techniek. I suspect she was scagged & on the nod, (I've been there & i know what it looks like) Such a tragedy that so many bright & shining stars are extinguished by opiate dependency. Ik vermoed dat ze was scagged & op de NOD, (ik ben er geweest en ik weet hoe het eruit ziet) een dergelijke tragedie dat zo veel heldere en stralende sterren zijn gedoofd door de verslaving aan opiaten. I wrote a song in tribute to to her memory, and I still listen to the “Together” album often. Ik schreef een lied als eerbetoon aan haar geheugen, en ik nog vaak luisteren naar de "Samen" album. I may not have seen Emily at her finest, but she inspired the musician in me to continue with my scales & arpeggios and remember that the music has to communicate personally. Ik kan niet Emily hebben gezien op haar mooiste, maar ze inspireerde de muzikant in mij om verder te gaan met mijn schalen & arpeggio's en dat de muziek moet persoonlijk te communiceren herinneren. I haven't thought about Emily in a long time but I'll always have great memories of playing with her in little hole-in-the-wall bars in Brooklyn's Park Slope. When you first heard her play, you knew that you were playing with a well-studied, serious musician. I've always thought that Emily brought more warmness to that album than Larry. Ik heb altijd gedacht dat Emily meer warmness gebracht dat album dan Larry. one of the great concerts of my (nearly) 60 years was seeing emily and larry coryell at the bimhuis in amsterdam late 80′s ? een van de grote concerten van mijn (bijna) 60 jaar was Emily zien en Larry Coryell in het Bimhuis in Amsterdam eind jaren 80? following which i bought the *together album…2 copies….again easily in my top 5 pieces of music in any category ….. waarna ik de * samen gekocht album ... 2 exemplaren .... gemakkelijk weer in mijn top 5 stuks van de muziek in elke categorie ... .. so i'm delighted to see this tribute site appearing … why is this wonderful album not available on cd ? dus ik ben blij om dit eerbetoon site verschijnen ... waarom is dit prachtige album niet op CD verkrijgbaar? … also i've discovered that there are wonderful video clips of emily in various settings on youtube …. ... Emily Remler's “Firefly” was one of those extremely intense sensations that lets you know you're in a new league. Emily was loved by so many who knew her and all of us who never had the opportunity. Emily was geliefd bij zo velen die haar kenden en ieder van ons die nooit de gelegenheid gehad. I faithfully followed Emily's advice in her hotlicks video to play bossa nova like the brazilians do. I was part of that family Larry Grinnell refers to in his comments. Ik maakte deel uit van die familie Larry Grinnell verwijst in zijn commentaar. I watched my beautiful cousin live a hard, challenging, but joyous life on the road over the years. How much I wish I could go back to that night in Fort Lauderdale and undo what would be coming up shortly in her life. Emily Remler was the woman who got me into playing jazzguitar. Emily Remler was de vrouw die me in spelen jazzguitar. I've played the guitar for 7 years, since I was 11. Ik heb gitaar gespeeld voor 7 jaar, sinds ik 11 was. It was mostly pop, rock and a bit classical stuff that I did until I saw her Hot Licks videoes approximatly one year ago. Het was voornamelijk pop, rock en een beetje klassieke dingen die ik deed, totdat ik zag haar Hot Licks videoes ongreveer een jaar geleden. She opened my ears for this beautiful, interesting, expressive, complex and fun music on the best instrument in the world! Ze mijn oren geopend voor deze mooie, interessante, expressieve, complexe en leuke muziek op de beste instrument in de wereld! Her music was special, her personality was special and, being a female guitarist myself, she became my special and most beloved idol, rapidly. Haar muziek bijzonder was, haar persoonlijkheid was bijzonder en, omdat ze een vrouwelijke gitarist mezelf, werd ze mijn speciale en meest geliefde idool, snel.
I still grieve that she's gone. Ik heb nog steeds verdriet dat ze weg is. I still watch her videoes and listen to her music and think I know her, that's she's my best friend; probably one of very few women in this world who understands me, what this instrument and what music means to me. Emily Remler was a magnificent, luminous human being who lighted the world's stage for the briefest of moments and then was heard no more. Although I did not know her personally, her music and the videos that have been posted on this excellent site have touched my heart and soul in a way that little has been able to for a great many years. I had the great pleasure to twice see Emily playing in a duo setting with Larry Coryell in Fort Lauderdale at the old Cafe Exchange in the mid-late 80s. She apparently had some family in the area, as she spent a lot of time with a group of people in the front row of this fabulous dive. I enjoyed a few moments with Coryell, sharing stories about my uncle, who taught Larry some Johnny Smith moves many years ago. Unfortunately, I did not discover Emily until 1992, after she had passed away. Helaas heb ik niet Emily ontdekken pas in 1992, nadat ze was overleden. I happened upon East to Wes and couldn't resisting asking the age old question: “Can she really play guitar/jazz?” It took a few listens before I understood what she was talking about. I had the chance to see the performance of Emily Remler and Monthy Alexander at The “Teatro Municipal” in Caracas, Venezuela around 1979 or 80. At that time they were playing with Venezuelan Jazz Artists “El Pavo” Frank on drums and Hector Hernandez “El pecho…” on acustic bass. Incredible music … on song that I liked a lot was “Latin Brother”

Around 1986 I was living in Istanbul Turkey. Rond 1986 woonde ik in Istanbul Turkije. A local jazz programme played the whole of Catwalk, an album of original tunes by guitarist Emily Remler. I played most styles of guitar for years, and pretty well too, and only stopped for medical reasons. Emily was one of the greatest jazz guitarists in the world and would have gone on to become the greatest it is said. Very rare to have a female jazz player and she was beautiful at that! I have everything she has done and she has inspired me to go all out and become the jazz player I think I can be.
