Kansas City, Missouri

~ Moanin’ ~ Secret Love ~ Sweet Georgie Fame ~

The following three videos of the Emily Remler Trio are from a PBS television broadcast out of Kansas City, Missouri in 1989 called Ruth’s Music Corner, featuring outstanding bassist Kelly Roberti and percussionist Brad Edwards. It begins with the wonderful Bobby Timmons blues tune called Moanin’, one of her personal favorites when touring, followed by Sammy Fain’s Secret Love and ending with Sweet Georgie Fame from the modest and brilliant composer, Blossom Dearie.

A short impromptu conversation taken from the same PBS show mentioned above with local jazz personality Ruth Rhoden.

Germany

~ My Latin Brother ~

This selection from the Dennerlein Germany show highlighted below is a fabulous George Benson tune that spotlights more of Emily’s guitar and Sonny Fortune’s flute to give it a beautiful Latin groove.

~ Stormy Weather Blues ~

From the Jazz In Concert series, a Munich broadcast from April 13th 1987 with Barbara Dennerlein doing amazing things on a Hammond B3 and Emily jamming away on a cute little Gibson ES 125 (which may have been borrowed since she never mentions owning one and it’s never seen in later performances.)
This is a wonderful bluesy Fortune composition performed by this masterful array of musicians. For more information check out Barbara’s website at the following link:

~ Tribute To Charlie ~

I must confess, I knew nothing of Barbara Dennerlein before viewing these shows but enough can’t be said about her abilities on the B3 and her feel for jazz, it’s very impressive. Numerous videos are available on YouTube that display her talents, don’t miss out on seeing more of her concerts there.

~ My Funny Valentine ~

Listen as Emily accompanies Kim Parker the stepdaughter of legendary Bebop Saxophonist Charlie Parker on this wonderful Jazz standard by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.

~ Germany Interview ~

This conversation is a short interview taken from her appearance with Barbara’s group and it’s so nice to have it in video form so we can enjoy the expressions behind the words as she causally lights up for this exchange between sets.
