This song grew out of her days spent as Artist In Residence at Duquesne University and performing around the Three Rivers area in the late 80’s. It started out being called, Abrazo No Pittsburgh which translates, A Hug For Pittsburgh.
This video has been suspended for now but have a listen to an early performance of Abrazo, with Trombonist/Percussionist, Jay Ashby, at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild from 1989.

If you listen to this solo rendering you’ll be unfavorably biased against the studio band version. She really cut it loose when it was just her alone with a guitar.

From Advanced Jazz and Latin Improvisation.
Emily’s soulful arrangement of a great Mongo Santamaria tune popularized by Coltrane.
Also the version used in transcribing Afro Blue
available on the Transcriptions page. One of my personal favorites.

Ending song on Advanced Jazz & Latin Improvisation.
Somehow her solo versions of studio songs are always more appealing to me and this shortened variation of Mocha is as sweet as it gets.

The opening song on, Advanced Jazz & Latin Improvisation.
Emily’s solo guitar version of this rare Jobim tune originally written for piano
is samba perfection.
~ D Natural Blues: In B Flat ~
Her version of a great Wes Montgomery tune from the beginning of
Bebop & Swing Guitar.
