Rem~iniscing
Savor the sounds of the latest recording to surface; Emily playing live at the Coeur d’Alene Jazz Festival from 1988 with good friends and fellow band mates for a number of western and mid-western tours, Kelly Roberti, Brad Edwards and Bob Nell.
- This performance was recorded by Brad Edwards and graciously shared by teacher, composer and double bass extraordinaire, Kelly Roberti. Feel free to visit him @ KellyRoberti.com and offer a personal note of thanks for his generosity for this and other archives he has provided to ATE over the years for the memory of his beloved Emily.
Remler In Thesis
California musician, songwriter and student of Ethnomusicology at Lewis & Clark , Julia Crager found enough inspiration from Emily’s approach to music and life that she used the late jazz guitarist in her dissertation –
Emily Remler: Her Artistic Philosophy and Music, focusing on Emily’s view of music and the business of making it in a male dominated industry as well as the techniques and fundamentals that made Remler’s playing unique.
While Crager’s sound is more rooted in the purity of alternative acoustic, closer to the styles of Ani Difranco or Kaki King, she is still effected by the “thoughtful way” Emily played, and her ideas on music. Julia’s favorite Em song,
“probably Nunca Mais and every song on Catwalk..”
